Joanne Imperio is a visuals editor and multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in New York.


Currently, Joanne is a Senior Photo Editor at The New Yorker, where she assigns photo stories and features for the print magazine. Previously, she was a Visuals Editor at The Atlantic, where she provided photo and art direction for digital features and daily stories. Her work has earned recognition from the Society of Publication Designers, National Magazine Awards, and the Society of Illustrators. She has also been on the jury for the Art Directors Club of New York and the Society of Publication Designers. She holds a BFA in Photography from Parsons School of Design, where she has contributed as a panelist and guest speaker on professional practices.
